Character Name: Porrim Maryam
Appearance: [body type ref]
Porrim has bronzed skin – the result of Indian/Italian heritage (Indian from her mother’s side, Italian presumably from her father) – which makes her emerald eyes pop out nicely. Her thick, black hair is currently styled into an undercut -- a decision she made on a whim, but has yet to regret.
She has a plethora piercings -- several eyebrow rings, a lip ring, multiple earrings, and a belly button ring. But this is nothing compared to her tattoos that snake across her arms and onto her collar as well as one on her ankle; courtesy of a fake ID and a skeevy tattoo parlor.
She’s also very attractive, with prominent features – and she knows it.
Prone to wearing skimpier clothing, especially dresses/skirts.
Age: 16
Magica Element: Space – that is to say, the ability to manipulate the space around her for her own benefit; however, it’s easy for this to backfire if she lose focus or manipulates it for too long.
Personality: Porrim is a very, very, very sexually liberated and seductive woman; and to say the least, and it’s earned her a bit of a reputation as the village bicycle. (This doesn’t mean she’s loaded with STDs or anything, though – safety first!!) Not that she really cares too much about this; it’s not a reputation she can get rid of, and she’s accepted, even embraced it – after all, she’s not above making the occasional innuendo or inappropriate comment.
She’s also quite the feminist, and will talk – not ramble -- about the issues oppressing women; and will call people out on their sexist bullshit whenever she can. Due to personal experiences, she’s especially passionate about the role of women as mothers/caretakers, but she definitely still cares about all of the issues. All of them.
Despite this, she does have motherly tendencies, especially in regards to a few of her friends.
Other hobbies include sewing/fashion.
Biography: Porrim was born and raised in an incredibly tiny, drab town located in the very south of Ohio – just barely in the infamous “bible belt.” From birth, she was told that she was expected to be – a good and proper housewife; a lady who is seen, never heard; a mother to all the children her future husband wanted; and so, so much more. Just like her conservative mother (also her only parent – she has no idea who or where her dad is or if he’s even alive; nor does she care to find out), and her mother, and all the mothers before her.
Porrim hated it.
She had never been quite sure about what it was that she’d wanted to do with her life as she’d grown up, but she did know that, whatever it was, she wanted to do it on her own time. She honestly didn’t mind some of the “housewife” duties – such as sewing – and she does have quite a few motherly instincts; but she’d be damned before she lived her life how others told her to. (Especially not, when having an incredibly strong preference for girls; getting married to man – especially a chauvinistic asshole of a man – and having his kids didn’t sound like her cup of tea.)
Thus, being incredibly fed up with her homophobic, radically religious, misogynistic town, she began to rebel. She took it out mostly on her appearance – see above because wow no not writing that out again– tried to tell others about how sexist society was, until finally, that wasn’t enough anymore. She didn’t care what happened with her, she just needed to get out of that poisonous environment. So she ran away.
(Following info mentions Aranea, and it has been cleared with our future Aranea.)
She spent time hitch-hiking – her only destination being “anywhere but here” – until she finally ran into one Aranea Serket. They hit it off instantly and began a quick whirlwind romance – during which, Aranea offered to let Porrim come live with her in NYC after hearing of her troubles. Porrim still lives there, despite her brief fling with Aranea having ended.
She’s also completely estranged herself from her mom, having become a ward of the state of New York.
