If you have any questions and you can't find the answer; ask us on the chatango or comment on this thread!
Is this a crossover with [insert magical girl series here]? No! This RP was inspired by series like Puella Magi Madoka Magica, Sailor Moon, Card Captor Sakura, and Tokyo Mew Mew. But it isn't a crossover with any of them.
How do the magica work? It's very simple, really! Powers are based on elements -- no two girls can have the same element -- which they are then able to harness and use to their advantage. They can still use their powers out of their magica form, however, it is much, much weaker this way. As for transformations; once each girl learns of their powers with the help of The Exiles, a locket is created. To transform, they must simply open it themselves. (Nothing happens if someone else does it for them). Outfits are based off of their powers and are unique to each girl, but are the basic short skirt/dress sort that is found within the magical girl trope.
How do The Exiles find the magica? Simple -- each magica has a sort of aura about them that is different from the average human's. The Exiles are able to sense this. Sometimes -- especially in a crowded place -- they might mix up auras, but in the end, they will find their magica.
Is this humanstuck? Yes. There are no trolls, carapaces, cherubs, or whatever The Felt is -- everyone has been humanized. The only non-human attribute is that some of them have powers.
Can boys be magica? No. If a character is canonically a boy, they cannot be a a magica. I don't care if they crossdress or anything -- they can't be a magica, and that's final. No genderswapping, either.
*EDITED 8/29/12* Then what's the role of the male characters? All male characters come into contact with a magical artifact (usually a weapon) early on in the course of the roleplay. Using these items, they are able to do things that regular beings cannot -- though they are in no way, shape or form 'magical' on their own.
These artifacts are items that are desired by both the Exiles and the Felt, as only with augmentation from their side can the item reach its true potential (no matter how well a boy wields it, the item has a natural 'cap' on its power). Legend has it that these, as well as the magical girls, pave the way to victory.
Within the course of the roleplay, a male character must find his weapon and choose a side -- to work against the Exiles for his own gain (as the temptations of the felt are many), to ally himself with the magical girls in their fight against corruption, or to merely go his own way and use his artifact to his own advantage. A man chooses his own destiny, after all.
*NEW* What can the artifacts held by the boys do? At their core, the magical artifacts the boys possess are very simple in nature, and leave very little to the imagination. Weapons, in their most basic form, can only do one truly devastating magical attack (for example, a gun infused with the power of wind may be able to change the direction of the wind to whichever way the bullet shoots -- and, depending on the charge, can cause a tornado that follow's the bullet's path) that cannot truly be altered. General artifacts may have one truly useful magical function, but are typically restricted to it and it alone (i.e., a buckler that controls the passage of time might be able to make the user go back in time -- but not forward; or vice versa) -- except in odd cases. These artifacts certainly make it possible for boys to at least take a magical girl in a fight, but alone they are very limited.
The artifacts need serious augmentation in order to become the full terrors that many elders know that they are capable of being. Doc Scratch of the Felt is capable of augmenting artifacts to incredible states (to aid in the destruction of the magical girls) -- while the Exiles tend to keep things a little more simple.
Once augmented, the weapons find themselves infused with truly awesome powers -- not that the boy has any say in what they are.
Do all girls have to be magica? Nope! This is up to their players.
Wait, so do all the characters live in New York City? Even though they canonically live elsewhere? Yes, this is an AU where everyone lives in NYC. For convenience, the main characters all go to the same school. (This doesn't mean they all have to know each other. It's a big school.)
How old is everyone? The beta kids and 12 original trolls are 14-15; the alpha kids, Meenah, and Aranea are 15-16; Calliope and Caliborn are 14-16; everyone else is anywhere from 20-35.
How are the Lalondes, Striders, Peixeses and Serkets related? What about Jane/John and Jade/Jake? That's up to the roleplayers!
Will you be allowing ancestors and guardians into this? There are currently no plans to, as they currently would serve no purpose.
Why are Calliope, Caliborn and Lord English three separate people? Because this is a humanstuck, and it's simpler this way.
Why can't I be Doc Scratch or Lord English? Because Lord English is incredibly overpowered, and thus is an NPC. Doc Scratch is also an NPC, because as LE's right-hand man, he acts as the leader for The Felt when LE is missing.
In the premise, you said there were five exiles. But there are four. Why? There aren't five exiles. But for this RP, Ms. Paint is included in the group known as "The Exiles."
What about Serenity? This is up to whoever plays WV to decide! WV could have her as a pet (still a firefly, or perhaps a dog, cat, or other species) or not at all.
*NEW* Will the school have schedules? Nope! The school isn't the focal point of this RP, so there's no need for everyone to have schedules. You can just BS this -- have classes with whomever your want (assuming they're in the same year or in an elective where they have multiple grades). They should also, obviously, be in the required classes.
*NEW* What about classes? What's Okay, the school will take place with a 9-period day. 4 of these periods should be taken up by the core classes -- math, english, science, history/social studies. Another should be taken up by a rotating A-day/B-day type schedule, where it rotates between a science lab period and gym each day. A 6th period should be taken up by lunch (unless your character wants to give this up for electives). All freshman and sophomores should have a 7th period for a foreign language (Roosevelt offers Spanish, Italian, French & Latin.) Juniors and seniors can continue their language if they'd like, but it's not required. That leaves 2-3 periods for electives. I don't really care what electives you use as long as they're reasonable and would be found in a high school -- if you're not sure if something is reasonable or not, ask.
